Taxonomy-compliant building & consulting for sustainable real estate

RITTWEGER + TEAM supports companies in taking the transformation criteria of the EU Taxonomy Regulation into account in construction projects and investments in the planning and thus implementing them efficiently. With our innovative approach of the Circular Material LAB, which evaluates building materials based on taxonomy-compliant transformation criteria, we create a robust basis for taxonomy-compliant circular economy in real estate.

As a planner, developer or investor, you can implement taxonomy-compliant construction in an economically attractive way through our “taxonomy innovation process”

The EU taxonomy plays a crucial role in the evaluation of sustainable buildings and real estate. It influences investment decisions, financing conditions and ESG reporting. We offer you professional taxonomy calculations and advice to make your real estate projects future-proof and compliant with the rules.

However, the decisive factor for the economic efficiency of taxonomy-compliant construction and the preservation of the value of a property is that the development process for taxonomy conformity already takes place in the planning phase.

Why is taxonomy assessment important?

  • Better financing opportunities through sustainability certificates
  • lower construction costs and operating costs throughout the entire life cycle
  • Compliance with regulatory requirements for sustainable investments

Good to know. (FAQ)

What does taxonomy-ready mean?

An activity is eligible for taxonomy if it can be assessed using clearly defined, measurable criteria (such as energy efficiency, emission reduction, resource conservation) to determine whether it makes a significant contribution to the EU environmental objectives (e.g. climate protection and climate adaptation) – without compromising other environmental objectives.

Which activities are taxonomy-ready?

Taxonomy-eligible activities in construction are those that can be assessed according to the (technical) criteria of the EU taxonomy to show that they make a significant contribution to environmental objectives such as climate protection and climate adaptation without compromising other environmental objectives. This includes, for example, the construction of new sustainable buildings in which energy efficiency and environmental friendliness are taken into account right from the start. Renovations and refurbishments that significantly reduce the energy consumption and CO₂ emissions of existing buildings, as well as modernizations in which old buildings are adapted to modern sustainable standards, also fall into this area. In addition, there are integrated sustainable construction projects in which ecological, economic and social sustainability aspects are taken into account right from the planning phase. The crucial thing is that these activities must meet all the criteria set out in the EU specifications – such as energy efficiency, CO₂ reduction, use of resources and adaptability to climate change – in order to be considered sustainable.

What criteria does the EU taxonomy set for sustainable economic activities?

The EU taxonomy is a classification system of the European Union that defines which economic activities are considered sustainable. The aim is to promote environmentally friendly investments and avoid greenwashing.

For an economic activity to be classified as sustainable, three key criteria must be met:

  1. Significant contribution to at least one of the six environmental objectives
  2. No significant damage to the other environmental objectives (Do No Significant Harm principle / DNSH criteria)
  3. Compliance with minimum social standards

What are the six environmental objectives of the EU taxonomy?

  • Climate action
  • Adaptation to climate change
  • Sustainable use and protection of water and marine resources
  • Transition to a circular economy
  • Preventing and reducing pollution
  • Protecting and restoring biodiversity and ecosystems

Companies and investors can use the EU taxonomy as a guide to make sustainable finance more transparent and credible.
